My Mark on the World

The News

For as long as I can remember I have loved the news and current events. Newspapers, the evening news were always a part of my routine. As technology changed news websites and the 24 hour channels were added to my schedule. Lately the websites and the 24 hour channels depressing. The overkill approach to coverage or the blindly partisan stories, a times both, have made me want to tune it out. I think that’s what I’m going to do for a couple of weeks to see if my days get better. Wish me luck.

Interleague Play

I hate it. It really takes away from the. World Series and something special that baseball had that none of the other major sports had. It was always intriguing to see how the teams in the series would do against each other in the fall classic. While the teams haven’t always played, it happens enough to remove one reason I found to be interested. My Braves playing the A’s wasn’t exciting because they are from the AL. The winner of the All-Star game deciding home field in the series is as bad, no need to determine whether it’s worse -they are both terrible-that’s enough to know. Please end Interleague play.

The Bourne Redemption

Note: if you haven’t watched the Bourne Movies this will contain possible spoilers. Instead of reading on, please close this window and find a digital copy of whichever Bourne movie(s) you haven’t enjoyed yet.

HBO showcased The Bourne Legacy earlier this summer. The fact that I watched it while it was still in theaters didn’t stop me from watching large segments of the film at least five times throughout the month. With each viewing, I became more and more convinced that this was a good film which received unfair criticism for what it didn’t try to be and didn’t receive enough credit for what it actually was.

It was well acted. Jeremy Renner was as convincing in his role as Matt Damon had been in his. The story was well written and fit inside the Bourne Universe. Perhaps most important is how this film set the story up for another installment in the franchise which I think should be entitled The Bourne Redemption.
At the conclusion of The Bourne Ultimatum, Jason Bourne’s only support from his former life came from two people: Pamela Landy and Nicky Parsons. Nicky was relatively safe in hiding but Pam Landy had made enemies in her agency and her future was far from certain. The Bourne Legacy is set in the same time frame as the events portrayed in Ultimatum.
While Aaron Cross doesn’t have a connection to Landy, they do share enemies and he and Bourne would have substantial reasons to work together in the installment I would label The Bourne Redemption. The problems Landy is mentioned facing in Legacy would definitely be a worthy reason for another film that Matt Damon has been quoted as saying is necessary for a fourth turn as Jason Bourne.
The series has been great. I hope there is at least one more in our future.
